Follow me!

All along the south we are enjoying a winter thaw, the sun is out, and you are probably wearing less and going out more staying your tail at home. Even if you are noticing the warmer weather and blooming trees(after a wet winter, the sunny weather in Atlanta mocks us), you are probably anticipating when you can finally shed the winter layers and…..just interact as normal! Spring festivals are in full swing – See ya later, Coachella – but still, you must get your skin on point.

Hopefully you spent the winter getting chemical peels or using chemical exfoliants like alpha hydroxy acids, which include glycolic acid and lactic acids. Both help your skin shed its dead layers.  Now that you will probably encounter more sunlight, you probably will want to switch to a milder exfoliant like a beta hydroxy acid. The most notable BHA is salicylic acid, and it will help degunk the pores in your skin while also giving your skin a more refined look. Daily cleansers like Neutrogena’s Pore Refining Cleanser and its accompanying Toner has both AHA and BHA and is gentle enough to keep your skin calm. The toner prepares your skin for the next step in you spring skin care routine.

The number one objective to achieving healthy skin ready for Spring is radiance. The number one ingredient that achieves this is Vitamin C.  In addition to radiance, Vitamin C helps protect the skin against UV damage, reduces discoloration from acne scars, and boosts collagen production. After cleansing and toning the skin, you may want to follow up with a serum that has this brightening quality. We recommend choosing a serum that includes a moisturizing element with it as well. CeraVe Vitamin C Serum with Hylauronic Acid is a favorite of mine and you will definitely notice its antiaging benefits.

The final and most important step to achieving radiant Spring skin is your moisturizer. You can knock out the previous step as well by using a moisturizer that has vitamin c in it. Here, though, I want a product that works double time and Neutrogena’s Hydroboost really is THAT GIRL. Perfect for day and night, it is great at leaving your skin soft and prepped before your makeup application. This product gets tons of good reviews.

Before you finish your routine it is still important to wear sunscreen, even when you are inside because of the UV radiation coming in through windows. Aveeno has a great facial sunscreen that you can purchase here.

With a good routine you will definitely see a difference in your skin, but don’t get it twisted, you got to have the rest of your body on point too. This past winter left me with dry skin induced acne, which I’ve never had an issue with before. Stay tuned for my body care routine where I talk about the products that helped me fix the crop of pimples that popped up on my shoulders. Ewww……. ☹
